In the nineties the whole world had a great revolution in every field when technology was put into its place cinema was no exception for it. Indian cinema has always seen holly movies as far ahead and till now it is believed that Hollywood films are far ahead in technologies. Yes, it is true they are ahead of us in terms of technology and computer graphics but we never missed to adapt technologies in Indian cinema. And this huge effort bringing computer graphics and new technologies in Indian cinema was made by director Shankar.
Shankar is the man behind all these new experimentations of CGI and technologies by today’s young directors. Even though few technologies were brought in by various directors but, Shankar is the man to execute and present perfectly to the auidiences. His experiments were done in the songs and still every visual and CGI is remembered by everyone. Chikku bukku raile was the song that went crazy when it was seen in the theaters. The arrows, heartens, tear drops where new to the audiences and not only this it also revolutionized the dressing trend.
It was always the Tamils dressing trend changed accordingly to the pop culture in cinema. Eighties was the period when the bell bottoms flowered shirts with bobby collar was the trend then the late eighties and early nineties was the period people were unknown what is the pop dressing culture, though Kamal came out in a different outfit in Vetrivizha it was Gentle man’s Chikku bukku raile song which made Jean pants, baggy pants, neon coloured shirts and leather jackets became famous and once again Tamils dressing trend was streamed into the pop culture of Tamil cinema.
His next film Kadhalan was a big victory and the song Ennavale adi ennavale song had CGI his experiment was done in the song Kadhalikkum pennin which was shot in massive sets and it closely resembled the pop English album songs. The properties the set design everything was different from usual Tamil cinema. He created a new grammar in shooting commercial songs.
He did not stop his experimentation with songs he brought the CGI in the films too. His endhiran was one such movie with perfection. Rather saying it a different attempt or bold attempt we must say it the perfect attempt. The replicas of many Rajinikanths or the formations of the robots in the climax were simply unimaginable in Indian cinema till then. His story line which brought the villain Rajini after so many years to screen and making us accept the villain Rajini was Shankar’s biggest success in his career. He should be the one to take the credit, if Indian cinema is catching up all new technologies very soon.
