The National Award winning director Vetrimaaran’s flick Visaranai has got several acclamations from the movie critics worldwide. First it made its entry to be premiered at the Venice Film Festival followed by bagging three National Awards from the Indian Government for Best Feature Film, Best Supporting actor and Best Editing.
The latest news came from the team that they had even entered the list of nominees for the 89th Academy Awards. Visaranai was the only Indian film to enter the Oscars this year. Now the Academy has released a list of 9 shortlisted films from 85 movies in the entries. Unfortunately the Vetrimaaran directorial didn't make the list.
Among the final 9, five would be shortlisted as the nominees on January 24 and one among them would bag the Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film in February. It is notable that Vetrimaaran was the youngest National Award winning director in India and he would have become the youngest and the only Oscar Award winning director if it had been positive. Still a long way to go for the talented filmmaker !!
