Visaranai starring Dinesh, Samuthirakani, Ajay Ghosh and Kishore which released on February 5 gave a critical reception to the team’s efforts. Even before it's theatrical release, the movie went to the Venice International Film Festival and post its release it bagged few National Awards. Now to add another gem to its crown, the movie has been selected for nomination for the Oscar Award 2017 under the Best Foreign Language Film.
Directed by Vetrimaaran, the youngest Indian filmmaker to win the National Award in India, this film was bankrolled by Dhanush under his home banner Wunderbar Films. If the movie snatches the award, then Vetrimaaran becomes the first and the youngest Indian director to get the Oscar. There were only 8 Indian movies nominated to the Oscar Award previously.
The last Tamil film to enter there was Kamal Haasan's Hey Ram in 2000 and after a gap of 16 years, another Kollywood movie reaches the gala. Dhanush who is basking the success of his film Thodari shared in his Twitter space thanking his team of Visaranai to have made this fruitful success. He among all of the team members is proud and memorable to have achieved this feat in a short period of time.
