Tamilnadu Government has announced 10% entertainment tax; this has shocked tax producers, theater owners and distributors. Yesterday, some theaters were shut down in Chennai. Tamil Film Producers Counsil have announced that from 6th of this month no movies will be released in the theaters and TFPC has given a Press release.
"Tamil cinema is facing a lot of problems like piracy and 18% -28% GST. This has deepened the producer’s misery and loss. At this stage, the Tamil Nadu government has shocked us, by additional 10% of entertainment tax which was announced for Tamil films on 27-09-17.
Last month the producers association has given their petition against this entertainment tax, explaining our constrains to accept the entertainment tax, to the Government of Tamil Nadu. But, without revising the ticket fare, the government has announced 10% of the entertainment tax. Producers will only have major losses and confussions in the business.”
So the producer association and Distributors association have decided that from Friday no Tamil movies will be released until the government accepts their demands.
TFPC decides, no Tamil film release from this Friday
