Kabali which released on July 22 had its Malay version released at Malaysia a week later only on July 29. Though many Kollywood movies reach the foreign screens, Kabali is something special especially to Malaysia as the move brought out the problems prevailing among the Malaysian Tamils. Malik Stream Corporation has bought the theatrical rights for Kabali in Malaysia for Rs.10 crores.
The distributor has undertook heavy promotions to make the film hit in their country to recover the investment in the opening weekend itself. Superstar's Endhiran holds the name of becoming the highest grossing Tamil film in Malaysia in 2010 with the collection of 20.47 crores. But now Kabali is going to beat its record by collecting even more amount.
The Pa.Ranjith directorial is the first Tamil film to be dubbed in Malay language. Also the climax in the Malay version has been changed as per the request of the Malaysian censor board as the protagonist surrendering himself to the Malaysian police. The overseas collections for the film are expected to rake up to high numbers this weekend as many fans are waiting to watch it in their language.
