Actor Sunny Deol announced on social media on Thursday that he is making a sequel to the war drama Border, which was released 27 years ago in 1997.
He posted a video on Instagram with the caption, "A soldier is coming back to fulfill a promise he made 27 years ago. India's biggest war film, #Border2."
The movie will be directed by Anurag Singh, known for directing Kesari (2019). Earlier reports mentioned Ayushmann Khurrana joining the cast, while details about the rest of the actors are still secret. According to a press release, filming will start by October.
Last year, Sunny starred in Gadar 2, another sequel to a classic, which became one of the biggest hits of 2023. Border, set during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War, focused on the Battle of Longewala. The sequel will also explore this war.
The original Border starred actors like Suniel Shetty, Jackie Shroff, and Akshaye Khanna, and was the top-grossing film of 1997. Border 2 will be produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta (director of the original film), and his daughter Nidhi Dutta.
