The former Union Health Minister Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss has written a letter on July 19 to Dhanush appealing to give up on-screen smoking towards the interest of youngster’s health. The fans try to imitate the actor and will affect their well being. Further he expressed his shock over the Dhanush’s acting in Maari regarding smoking and had asked Dhanush to announce to the public that he will refrain from such smoking scenes in his forthcoming movies.
By this Dr.Anbumani is asking Dhanush to take Rajinikanth, his father-in-law as an example who had quit on-screen smoking and had also advised people to abstain from it. He further supports his talk from findings in a popular medical journal, Lancet and from World Health Organization reports that film personalities tend to influence the audiences to smoke and lead to a habit in them.
Dhanush had replied in turn that it was the need for that character as suggested by the movie’s director to play a perfect thug role. He also added that he is not a smoker in real life and has requested his fans to quit smoking if so.
