VIP 2 entertains but unconvincing
Today three movies in a row have hit the screens and each film has created an expectation to lure the audiences. Velai illa pattathari 2 was one such movie which did not fail to create the hype. VIP 2 featuring Dhanush, Kajol, Amala Paul, Samuthira Kani and Vivekh in major roles got a grand opening for this star cast. The movie is a sheer sequel of the first part and did not miss any of the elements like Mother Sentiment, the house and relationships. The continuity of these elements is done perfectly that no one can find any flaws or mistakes. The one liner of the movie is very simple a huge construction company tries to suppress our hero and how our hero does break all odds. This was the same one liner for VIP first part too, nothing has changed except for the timeline and a few characters. As one liner becomes very thin the story was written did not add any layers to the movie. The aura that has been created to Raghuvaran in the first part has been maintained in this movie. Raghuvaran grammar hasn’t changed even an inch in this sequel. But audiences would have felt for such a strong protagonist who had a mass support did not have any strong opponent. Yes, even though Kajol plays a very strong character and her performance in the movie is incomparable, her characterization towards the end becomes baseless. As Vasundra was shown as the only strong opponent to Raghuvaran, the climax was expected to be very powerful. But, to everyone's shock climax was very unconvincing. The selling point of VIP first part was how Raghuvaran mocks his opponent and defeats them. In this movie, in nowhere we could find those elements. So this makes Raghuvarans character melodramatic. The major missing link of this sequel is Anirudh’s music. Though Sean Roldan has done a decent job audiences will definitely feel the vacuum. Sean Roldan’s excellence was known in his previous movies but this is not his best. His dedication towards the movie was seen in few emotional sequences but through out the movie, his music was the odd one out. The movie’s treatment was fair and director’s effort and hard work were seen in the movie. Logics of Raghuvaran were knitted in the screenplay very well. Many had doubts if Soundarya could handle a mainstream movie but here professional skills were visible by the way it was executed. The movie doesn’t fail to entertain but as the story became very thin it was unconvincing towards the climax.
