Vijay’s latest hero-worshipping venture is a shoddy disappointment

Bairavaa is nothing but a shameless hero-worshipping project, that is tailored to appease only his die hard fans. As a movie, it is a huge disappointment for being shockingly indifferent, and being a cruel bore at that.
The tone is quite dull for a masala film

A masala movie that has scope for mass moments, Bairavaa struggles with tone and pace and fails to do justice to its star. The film’s writer and director, Bharathan, dresses up his average guy versus powerful individual story as an issue-based film, but instead of telling this story in swift strokes, he narrates it in leisurely fashion, robbing the film of energy, which is crucial for a mass hero film.
Vijay fights it alone

Bairavaa has its mass moments in the first half, rides on Vijay’s charismatic presence and disappoints on everything else. Should work for Vijay fans big time.
Fine festive entertainment

We've got used to Vijay's films now. At least some of us. We know what to expect when he's there, the storyline is mostly predictable, and the villains are stereotyped. But even after all these roadblocks and more, Vijay's superpower seems to be in adding an incessant charm to an everyday entertainer, and zoom up the excitement. 'Bairavaa' in hindsight, is one more example to this list. 'Bairavaa' won't give you anything out-of-the-box or never seen before, but it's Vijay who makes it special and churns out a fairly pleasing commercial entertainer. No strings attached, watch and walk off.

Even Vijay's screen presence could not save a middling script
