A Must Watch Tribute to Fathers!
Review by: 2DayCinema
Critic ReviewRating: 8.0 / 10
Call it a brave attempt at good cinema. All the drama in the film unfolds from human emotions. Samuthirakani dominates the show and his powerful performance is the hallmark of this enterprise. He succeeds not just as an actor here but also a filmmaker.
Tries Too Hard To Be An Inspiring Tale!

Samuthirakani's intention to deliver a meaningful film is praiseworthy. But, we have already seen similar movies and Appa needs something special to stand out from the rest.
All message and no movie

I rolled my eyes, but the people around me clapped every time a moral instruction erupted from Dayalan’s lips. Clearly, there’s still an audience that, after a century of cinema, is only interested in what is being said, not how — only content, not form. That may be this film’s biggest message.
Samuthirakani plays the lovable encouraging father

A gutsy uncompromising effort from Samuthirakani which however would test your patience to sit through!
Some good lessons for fathers and all of us

Samuthirakani as a good intentioned, friendly father gives yet another matured and no-nonsense performance as an actor. Thambi Ramiah is at his usual best as a dotting father and leaves a lump on throat towards the climax sequences. Vignesh (we know him as the Periya Kaaka Muttai) as Kani’s son is smart and impressive.
