Jai is adequate in his act, pulling off a simple role with ease

Pugazh is an adequately enjoyable fare which is neither too good nor bad. It has its flaws, but can never be brushed away as a ‘nothing’ film. The intent is good, and that’s something to be happy about.
A middling drama somewhat redeemed by grit, texture

Pugazh is a collection of good bits of writing, good intentions, but they don’t add up to a consistently good film because it wants to be both a rooted ensemble drama and a masala-style solo-hero narrative. We get neither.
'Pugazh' is a pretty decent action entertainer.

Performances are another big plus for the film. Jai with his boy-next-door image aptly fits the role and he is more than convincing in action scenes. He has also improved a lot on his dialogue delivery and makes the right impact when he utters some bold and punchy dialogues towards the big shots.
A political drama that could have been handled better

Critic ReviewRating: 4.5 / 10
A premise on political drama could have easily hit the right chord if it had been handled with a lot more care. Pugazh falters on this note and ends up being a mediocre product.
A cliched story of corrupt politicians

Pugazh ceases to tread a focussed path, often wandering without purpose. Obviously, the film begins to look and sound disjointed with several scenes not fitting into the puzzle.
